Gonzales stirred awake, the sound of soft sobs pulling him from his deep slumber. He emerged from his bed, stretching his legs out for a long time before walking out in his pajamas.
He saw a small child run into him, crashing into his legs and toppling over. He blinked a few times, rubbing his eyes as he looked down at the boy that gawked back at him with wide eyes.
He wore a tiny cap, lazily falling off every once in awhile and needing adjusting, caramel brown hair covering one eye. His clothes were a light brown, a vest and matching dress pants which were tattered and dirty.
Gonzales looked back up, seeing a few Barrels bounding after the child. He sighed and stepped in front of the shuttering boy, calling out, “Hey, what do you think you’re doing?”
The three skidded to a stop, looking up at the silver male behind their sunglasses.
“W-We were just-”
“-Trying to get his k-kid-”
“I don’t care, really. Who is he?” Gonzales folded his arms, looking down for a moment as the boy hugged onto his pant leg.
“Some kid we found, hiding under a stool. He was bawling his eyes out so we thought we’d...Toss him around a bit.”
Gonzales mentally began thinking of ways to kill the three, but decided against his thoughts. Some Other time, Zales. “I’ll take him. Scram, before I make you regret waking me up.”
They ran off, leaving the staute with the crying child.
Gonzales turned and kneeled down to meet the kid’s gaze, wiping away the tears that fell from his cheeks, “Are you okay, Kid?” He asked softly.
“N-Nej.” He replied, shaking terribly. He lifted the sleeve of his shirt, showing what looked to be burn marks. “H-Hurts...”
The silver statute thought of his own arms, how battered and bruised they were. This child reminded him of himself, always looking as if he were sobbing. He smiled somberly, “Do you want me to make that better?” He asked, watching him closely.
The child nodded quickly, sniffling, “Name...?”
“Gonzales.” He said back, scooping up the child in his arms gently, “Your’s?”
